Product image Boardman Comics Monographs Vol. 1, No. 1: The Origin of Marvelman  ~  Book ~ by Matthew H. Gore. Stated first edition, 2006. Saddle stitched, 52 pages including covers, illustrated in black and white.

Are you a Miracleman/Marvelman fan? Did you, like me, buy a copy of Kimota and wonder where the rest of the story was? That would be the early stuff, the 1950s and 1960s. Seems like most fans of the character these days came to Miracleman when the Alan Moore revamped him in the early-1980s but there as a whole world or Marvelman back in the goldenage/silverage. If you want to know how an obscure British publisher transfromed Captain Marvel into Marvelman, this is the book for you. Extensive quotes from Mick Anglo profile the individuals who worked on the character.

The book also includes an extensive bibliography of the British "pirate" comics published by L. Miller & Son from the 1940s to the 1960s. Pirate comics are the immitations of American comics that sprang up in Britain during the years when real American comics were banned from being imported (1939-1959). They were not often dated, didn't all start with issue #1, and have a pretty obscure history but at least some information on hundreds of them can be found here.

The "book" is actually in comic book format which means once you are done reading it, you can bag and board it and store it with your comics. It has color cover and a black and white interior. The print run is limited. Shipped flat, bagged, and boarded!
